In this seminar, students will learn about the fundamental principles of business ethics and sustainability control systems, as well as the implications of business ethics for different (internal) stakeholders of the firm. The course is divided into three parts. The first part provides an introduction to the topic. In the second part, students will become familiar with various sustainability control systems and receive an introduction to how business ethics can be operationalized and managed within organizations. In the third part, students will discuss the implications of morality and ethics in business for different stakeholders, such as shareholders and employees. Participation in the seminar requires a formal application. Students are asked to submit a short letter of motivation (maximum one page) outlining their interest in the seminar topic. The letter should also specify any prior knowledge or academic background in the areas of Business Ethics and Sustainability Control Systems. In addition, applicants are required to submit a current transcript of records. The application deadline is June 1st. Applicants will be notified of acceptance shortly after the deadline. In this seminar, students examine how national culture influences Management Control Systems, with a comparative focus on Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) and Germany. The course introduces key cultural frameworks (e.g., Hofstede) and analyzes their impact on control instruments such as performance measurement, budgeting, and incentive systems. It also includes basic cross-country empirical analysis. Students explore theoretical foundations, cultural effects on specific control mechanisms, and managerial implications for international firms, developing the ability to critically assess and design culturally sensitive control systems. Participation in the seminar requires a formal application due to limited capacity. Applicants must submit a short letter of motivation (maximum one page) outlining their interest in the topic “Culture and Control” and describing their academic background and relevant knowledge in Management Control Systems/Management Accounting, cultural theories, or cross-cultural management, as well as quantitative or statistical methods (e.g., hypothesis testing, t-tests, ANOVA, empirical research methods). A current transcript of records must also be submitted. Prior coursework in management accounting or controlling is strongly recommended. Background knowledge in cultural theories and basic statistical methods is highly advantageous. The application deadline is April 10th. Applicants will be notified of acceptance after the deadline. Qualifikationsziele des Seminars:   Die Teilnehmer und Teilnehmerinnen sollen für die verschiedenen Aspekte der Unternehmensnachfolge sensibilisiert werden. Die Unternehmensnachfolge ist eine interessante Alternative zur eigenen Gründung, ist aber mit Besonderheiten auf den Gebieten des Zivilrechts, der Steuern und der Bewertung verbunden. Darüber hinaus sind psychologische Aspekte zu berücksichtigen. Es sollen die Grundlagen und wesentlichen Erkenntnisse der aktuellen Forschung und Praxishinweise/ -erfahrungen vermittelt werden.   Inhalte des Seminars: Zivilrechtliche Aspekte (insb. Qualification objective: The participants will learn about the basics of the classic network design and transportation problems and the impact of sustainability notion on these problems, in particular, we will discuss environmental and social impacts, alternative fuel vehicles and new logistics problems based on the sustainability concept. Additionally, we will look at new transportation vehicles especially uncrewed (autonomous) vehicles and their applications. Requirements for participation: Good knowledge and deep interest in logistics systems, operations research and mathematical modelling. Course dates: 1st block.
